Congratulations to all our UFCW Local 1445 scholarship winners!
The following 4 scholarships (2 winners each) are awarded by random drawing from among all the eligible applicants.
Women's Network/Beppie McNally
Two Essay Scholarship winners are selected by the UFCW Local 1445 president based upon the content of the essays these high school seniors submit with their applications. In order to be sure that judging is as fair and neutral as possible, essays are anonymized to avoid any unconscious bias or favoritism; the president has no idea of the actual identities of the essays' authors.
Even though our memorial scholarships (the first 4 above) are selected at random, the Lottery Scholarship winner is also selected at random but must be EITHER: A Local 1445 member or a Local 1445's family member who is a high school senior planning to attend a vocational program upon graduation; OR a Local 1445 member (members only) who has been out of school for at least a year but has decided to resume their education.
Winners of our scholarships are chosen and announced annually at the UFCW Local 1445 July quarterly meeting, and we accept applications for the coming year almost as soon as the current year's winners are picked! If you, or a family member, are going to be a college-bound high school senior this fall, make sure you send in an application for the 4 memorial scholarships (Beppie McNally, Nicole Berman, Dennis Norton, and Joe Hayes - one application to enter them all), and seriously think about entering the Essay scholarship contest as well. And vocational program-bound high school seniors - don't lose out on the opportunity to win a scholarship to help pay for that vocational program.
Our undergraduate college student members (or family members) should also be aware that the 4 memorial scholarships are open to you, too, as long as you're an undergraduate. So just because you didn't win this year, as long as you haven't graduated yet you can still enter these scholarship drawings.
